William Morris (March 24, 1834 - October 3, 1896) was a 19th century British textile designer, poet, fantasy writer, artist, printer, translator, architectural conservationist, socialist activist, and leader of the Arts and Crafts movement. He was active in many fields and achieved great things in each field. He is called the "father of modern design". He also wrote many romances set in a fictional medieval world, such as "Forests Beyond the World", and is considered the father of modern fantasy. He also influenced Lord Dunsany and J.R.R. Tolkien.
